Calm Oceans LP is a fund specializing in day trading strategies (including trend following, range trading, news playing, and intra-day market making). Our day traders have a passion for finding market efficiencies where others cannot. We also know a key to our success is in monitoring and controlling risk. Calm Oceans LP uses a unique, licensed trading system that ensures the Fund’s individual traders cannot expose it to undue market risk. We have a diversified range of day trading styles and a broad cross-section of geographic markets and of stocks traded.

We are not a high-frequency algorithmic trading firm. We believe a human brain will consistently outperform a computer trading program. The reason is simple – no algorithm can be designed to contemplate all possible news items, market developments and “black swan” events. Whenever there is a “flash crash”, algorithmically-based high frequency trading firms either flee the markets or make obviously erroneous trades that are later busted. Our fund consistently weathers such events due to our combination of (1) human beings constantly monitoring their trading positions, with (2) our trading system’s stringent risk controls.
